“Inspired by Barcelona” is the first group exhibition in Hong Kong curated by ZHEN, the platform for contemporary ceramic art and design. In response to BODW 2015 and deTour 2015, the exhibition brings together a body of paintings, sculptures, lightings and tablewares visually or metaphorically related to the city Barcelona, all by the medium of ceramics. Some of the commissioned new works were created specifically for this exhibition and for the pop up space in PMQ, Hong Kong.
The exhibition recreates the complex images of Barcelona by presenting works created by artists from different societies, cultures and languages, urging audience to explore new and diversified aesthetics in the ceramic medium. Interestingly some of the artists in this exhibition have never been to Barcelona before. The exhibition by nature is a process of investigating the distance between representation and reality, as well as the interplay amongst everyday life, living experience and perceptions, which are also quite important to Hong Kong city.
