ICY is THE BEST

1 / 1

ICY is THE BEST — ice pops represent a taste of happiness in Hong Kong, whether as an after-school snack for students or a refreshing treat to beat the summer heat.

This design project utilises ice pops as a means not only to spark curiosity and engagement but also to explore the possibilities fueled by new technologies. By combining new technology and craftsmanship driven by thoughtful design, we are expanding the potential of our beautiful future. Through this process, the ice pops become our cultural medium that showcases the distinctiveness of Hong Kong with a twist of nostalgia while creating excitement for what lies ahead.

D-OLOGY

D-OLOGY (combining ‘design’ and ‘logy’ which means ‘study of’) is chief designer Derek Fung’s spin-off lab, dedicated to the exploration and application of design towards the realisation of ideas into space and form. He is also the co-founder and design director of Liminal Collection.

Hailing from Hong Kong, Derek studied in Australia and graduated from UNSW Sydney with a Bachelor of Industrial Design (Hons) degree. Shortly after, he had won the Commercial Furniture Industry Association of Australia’s (CFIAA) National Furniture Design Competition, which led to a series of placements at Steelcase Furniture’s Treehouse Studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan; IDEO in Palo Alto, California; and Wilkhahn Furniture’s independent design studio Wiege in Bad Munder, Germany.

Upon his return to Hong Kong, Derek established his design company, Article8 Ltd, primarily focusing on interior design projects. Since then, he has re-engaged in product development, including furniture designs exhibited at Shenzhen Design Week 2014-2016, the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2019, and London Design Fair 2019.
