AALTO is a cinematic voyage into the life and work of Alvar Aalto, a defining figure of the 20th century architecture movement. The movie chronicles the intimate love story between Alvar and his wife, Aino. Beneath their unyielding love lay a shared conviction in putting people at the heart of their designs. Narrated by experts in the field, the film takes the audience on a tour of iconic buildings in Massachusetts, Russia, Paris, and Venice, deconstructing the magic that the modernist couple instilled in the bricks of their meticulous designs.
STICKYLINE is a prominent creative duo comprising Mic Leong and Soilworm Lai from Hong Kong. Renowned for their distinctive, large-scale polyhedron sculptures, the duo is the mastermind behind the creative engineering, intricate mathematics and complex geometric structures in their work. The duo also conducts site-specific curation, explores experimental spatial experiences with minimalist geometric aesthetics and injects communal creative energy into their ever-evolving body of work.
Kay Chan Wan Ki is a product designer and community interaction planner specialising in sustainable design, whilst integrating art and design into public spaces to promote community and environmental inclusion. Since 2017, she has actively participated in and curated various exhibitions in Hong Kong and abroad.
Charles Lai is a British architect and researcher of the history and conservation of Hong Kong and Asian modern architecture. He received his PhD degree in architectural history and theory from the University of Hong Kong Department of Architecture, and a diploma from the AA School of Architecture in London. He is a member of the Docomomo Hong Kong. His research explores the history of modern architecture in East and Southeast Asia, the material culture and history of Shanghai plaster, as well as the conservation and revitalization design of historical built heritage.
Mr. Chan Hope is a furniture collector and restorer specialising in Danish furniture from the mid-century. He is an aerospace engineering graduate from the University of Sheffield choosing to experiment with furniture design, applying engineering principles to bring felicity into the utilitarian design.
A registered architect, Ar. Allen Poon is the Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and also a keen photographer. Beyond his design work, he has a passion for promoting architectural culture and education for the community. Allen was the Executive Curator for Hong Kong Shenzhen Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture, and also curated for the Hong Kong Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. In recent years, Allen has been actively involved in the conservation and revitalisation at Pokfulam Village to protect its cultural landscape.
