One of the great beauties of architecture is that each time, it is like life starting all over again.” Renzo Piano’s remarks may sound controversial, but as the world faces the climate change crisis, is it appropriate to think of design as a series of new beginnings or should we be thinking of design as a regenerative, renewable proposition?
This year, in response to “Design as ONE” RIBA Talk 2022! asks Design Professionals to think about Design as something new and as a regenerative proposition, putting “REPLACE” and “RECLAIM” into debate as the world seeks to combat climate change. This session explores ‘ONE’ as a new beginning and as a continuous, cyclical process. Design professionals will be asked if design should meet market demands, feed consumerism and fuel economic growth; or if design needs to consider life and sustainability. Are fast fashion, fast architecture and fast product design the answers to an expanding global population? Do designers have a responsibility to contribute in tackling the climate change crisis? Join this eye-opening debate and have your say.
