About PMQ

Creativity at a new address – PMQ (Former Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters) opened its door in April 2014, providing a platform for local creative talents to showcase their work and creation. This is a place for international creative happenings right in the heart of our city, and a destination for a creative lifestyle experience.

deTour: A Ten-Day Fest Celebrating Innovation

Building our future with creativity.

Officially launched in 2008 as a concurrent event of the Business of Design Week, deTour, namely “one of the most exciting events on Hong Kong’s cultural calendar” by CNN, is back again this year. Taking place strategically in Central’s iconic venue PMQ, the annual event is to build not only the necessary platform for international and interdisciplinary cultural exchanges; this year, it wants to embody the creativity, progressiveness and impermanence of “temporary stage”, a common idea to any Hong Kong native, and translate it though deTour’s very fine selection of designs from all around the world.

deTour sustains the mission on driving creative education through bringing inspiring designs to everyone. Through co-creation of young talents, we believe it is where the temporary stage can truly take place, allowing each and everyone of them to reach their better selves.

Innovation makes life better, while creativity determines our future. deTour is here to connect ideas, users and creative spaces; we want everyone to participate in this experience and we are inviting all to join.

Foreword: “CONNECTION”

Imagine a global connection of creative ideas; it is a cosmography where creativeness sparkles in between. Here in Hong Kong, innovation knows no border. Anyone of any background can showcase his or her talents here. The city has endless excitements in stock for you.

Here we connect; we get to know each other; we exchange knowing smiles.
It is the networking of creative nodes that incubates innovation;
it is the gravitating energy within an international creative hub.

Connecting with human, we experience warmth again.
Connecting with minds, ideas collide to generate things we’ve never seen.
Connecting with communities, original creativity borne from a desire to survive can be uncovered.
Connecting with the future, we become open to where possibilities can lead us.

deTour is connecting local and international minds by sincerely bringing the most original designs in the world to PMQ in Hong Kong.

deTour aspires to see emerging artists and young creative minds coming together at this creative platform with a sense of belonging and ownership. We have invited artists and designers to host various workshops at no charge and convey creative education through their time spent with the public.

deTour is also reaching out this year to local community through satellite events being held at Mongkok and Sham Shui Po, eliminating the unnecessary distance between local communities and creative education.

The “temporary stage” built by deTour is for each and everyone to shine.
