E – Embroidery Workshop

1 / 1

When traditional textiles meet modern technology, what are the potential possibilities?

This workshop blends traditional embroidery craftsmanship with e-textile technology by infusing fabrics with electronic components. It not only challenges the conventional perception of embroidery as a static art form but re-explores the potential of embroidery. Our instructors will introduce the theory of electronic textiles and guide participants with simple embroidery techniques, constructing electric circuits on the fabric, and adorning it with LED bulbs to craft an illuminated firework decoration.

Cman & Shirley

Cman Chiu is a new media artist and designer now based in London and holds an MA in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London. She is dedicated to crafting experiences through the application of technology. Her practice revolves around interactive physical installations, where she explores the dynamic interplay between space, materials, and technology, unlocking the potential for experiences that blend the wonders of the digital realm with our tangible physical reality.

Shirley Hung is an embroidery artist who founded her craftsman brand, “Littlelenpopo,” in 2014. Her artistic practice revolves around self-exploration, drawing inspiration from encounters with people, memories of specific places, personal history, and daily experiences. To Shirley, thread symbolises the bond between individuals, and she explores her relationship with closed ones and space through embroidery.
