From Microtopias to Social Innovation

After five years of discovering historical buildings to the public, the 2013 edition of DETOUR engages experimentation with an even heightened ambition and wider horizon: curating the city.

As a tridimensional matrix, Hong Kong offers a very peculiar and specific public domain. There is always an intense and unstoppable flux of people, goods and desires, yet the city offers many microtopos –petite and intimate places for you and me to actually sit down, to chat, to gather. They withstand as common ground for cultural and creative dialogues, as incubator for our diversity of attitudes and lifestyles, as well as retreat for individual dreams and microtopias*.

In 2013, from November 29th to December 8th,
DETOUR shall install and activate, along the historical public transportation system on the Island, a series of microtopias, including some architectural settings as well as a few un-usual, converted trams.

For ten good days, we invite communities to make do with the installations, workshops and performances. Nearly a hundred alliance and satellite exhibitions and events in town will also join celebrating our creative holism- Hong Kong not as a city with some designer and artist residences, but a multipli-city with underlining artistic qualities and revealing creative potentials everywhere.

DETOUR and you will provoke social innovation together–
a collective, collaborative, cocreative experience not to be told but demands to be narrated.

*as opposed to the omnipotent, dominating notion of utopia
